Introduction

Coconut is a round and elongated fruit of white, fibrous and oily meat covered by a thick, brown and hairy shell. Coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm  It’s used for its water, milk, oil, and tasty meat and it offers potential health benefits which includes calories, protein, carbs, fibre, fat etc.

Growing Coconut

The ideal soil conditions for better growth and performance of the palm are loose well-drained soils about 50 – 100 cm deep with good water holding capacity. However, coconut can be grown under different soil types such as loamy, lateritic, coastal sandy, alluvial, clayey and reclaimed soils of marshy lowlands.

Duration and Season

Coconuts take around one year to ripen fully. Several coconuts grow together in a bunch and they ripen about the same time.

Sowing and harvest period

If you want to harvest the fruit for the coconut water, the fruit is ready six to seven months after emergence.
